Pool Guidelines GENERAL Please shower before entering the pool. No photo or video shooting in the pool area or locker rooms. > Users must read and follow all posted rules and must follow lifeguard and staff instructions when requested. > Please have your child use the restroom before entering the pool area. > Parent/Guardian of children 11 years & younger are required to remain with their children during the entire YMCA visit. > Children 48 inches or shorter in height are required to be accompanied in the water by an adult 18 years or older. > Special swimming diapers are required for children under 3 years old or not potty trained > No clothing or diaper changing on the pool deck or in lobby areas. > Diving in the shallow end of the pool is strictly prohibited. Diving may be disallowed from any point of the pool deck at the discretion of the YMCA. > No outside trainers, coaches, therapists, etc. permitted at any time. > Appropriate swim attire is required (i.e. no thong, cutoff shorts/pants, see through bathing suits or any other revealing swimwear). > Bathing caps must be worn by anyone with hair falling below ears, touching collar, four inches or longer. If you do not have a cap, hair must be neatly secured back. > Pool will close during threat of lightning/thunder. > Any person with an open or infectious wound is not permitted in the pool. > Do not use the pool if you or your child has had diarrhea in the previous two weeks. > No food, gum or beverages (except plastic water bottles) are allowed on the pool deck. OPEN EXERCISE >No children are allowed in Open Exercise Lanes. >Adults may stretch, power walk, and water exercise on their own. WATER EXERCISE CLASSES >Classes are offered to Members of the YMCA only. >No enrollment is required. >Minimum age is 12. > Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. >For complete details see the Water Exercise Brochure.

SWIM LESSONS Please shower before entering the pool. > Only participants enrolled in the Swim Lessons will be allowed in the swimming pool during the times listed. >Classes are offered to Members and Non-Members. >Requires enrollment and payment of lesson fees. >For complete details see the Swim Lessons Brochure. ADULT LAP SWIM Please shower before entering the pool. > Lap Lanes are to be used for lap swimming only. >Lap Lanes are for participants 15 and older only. Any exceptions for advances swimmers under 14 years must be approved in advanced by the Aquatics Coordinator. > No children allowed on deck during adult lap. > When 3 or more swimmers share a lane, circle lap swimming is preformed in a counter-clockwise circle. (Lane line or wall should always be to your right.) Please stay close to the lane line to avoid hitting others. > Chose the proper lane (Fast, Medium, Slow). Take a few minutes to observe the swimmers to gauge which lane is best for you. Lifeguards will move swimmers as needed. In shared lanes no butterfly stroke, adapted stroke, or equipment which may affect the safety of other swimmers is permitted. When a faster swimmer needs to pass, the slower swimmer should stop at the wall and allow the swimmer to pass. If you are entering a lane occupied by one or more swimmers, make sure all swimmers in the lane are aware that you intend to join the lane and enter from the shallow end only. FAMILY SWIM Please shower before entering the pool. > Children under 48 inches or shorter are required to be accompanied in the water by an adult 18 years or older. A maximum ratio of 1 adult to 2 non-swimming children will be enforced. Adult must be within arms reach of children. > No flotation devices will be allowed (water wings/floaties/tubes/ mats/etc.) with the exception of Coast Guard approved life jackets. YMCA Instructional Flotation Devices may be available. > A deep water test is required for all children who want to swim in the deep end. > No balls or throwing of any objects. No horseplay. > Pool equipment is for swim lesson use only. Noodles may be available. >Children must take a swim test by lifeguard before swimming in the deep end. The West Valley Family YMCA reserves the right to modify rules at its discretion to insure the safety of all members, guests and staff.
